How to disable superfetch in windows 10, windows 8

In this article, we will discuss about an amazing feature called Superfetch. Whenever an application is opened in our windows before that, it is loaded in our system’s memory. Suppose two different apps say one is sound Recorder and other is your Media player, now clearly you will use media player quite more often than the sound recorder. Now suppose you open an application than the time taken in its loading depends on time to load that in systems memory. Now there are some apps that are used quite more frequently than other that’s why we have Superfetch for that. This is an amazing technology and reduces the loading time of such apps by preloading frequently used apps and thus reducing time.

It automatically preloads such commonly used apps in systems memory which reduces their loading time. This further increases performance during regular tasks, so your PC will perform better while performing such tasks. Superfetch is present in Windows 8 and 10 and for some reason, if you want to disable it then there is a way for you to do that. In this article, we will discuss the way about the same. We will tell you about the steps you need to perform to disable this feature for both Windows 8 and Windows 10 user. This feature was earlier named as prefetcher for the old version of windows that is Vista.

How to disable SuperFetch in Windows 10 and Windows 8?

A prefetch file is loaded every time an application is loaded, and it contains information about it. The information present is used to optimise the time of loading.

While on the other hand superfetch predicts some of the frequently used apps and thus optimise time according to it. Windows Vista had prefetch, and now in a later version of windows there is superfetch in our computers.

Prefetch and superfetch both are an amazing technology and also Windows storage management technology and thus also provide better, fast and more efficient access to the traditional hard drives. But it also results in the unnecessary writing operation in the drive.

In this article now we would tell you about the way you can perform the disabling task. Before you get to know about the process to disabling we will first make sure that you know about the feature. So we will first tell you about what it is and later about if you should disable it or not.

What exactly is Superfetch?

Now we will discuss in brief about this feature. We will now tell you in brief about what this feature is and what is it used for.

Superfetch is a service that was earlier introduced by Vista and is introduced to improve systems performance and responsiveness to improve windows. It speeds up your computer by identifying frequently used apps and then preloading them into the RAM and thus has not to be called from the slow hard disk drive into memory. You will gain in better speed with this but will after that will leave less RAM for other programs.

Do we really need it?

There are a bunch of tasks that superfetch do and results into. Some of them are:

  1. Since superfetch is itself working in the background so it itself is using some space and RAM for its working.
  2. If your disk is showing 100 % usage, then it can be due to the superfetch, and it can be the culprit behind it.
  3. In windows, 10superfetch are not of much importance since the loading is quite fast already without it and in actuality you really don’t need it.
  4. If you have also been facing issue while playing high graphics game, then it may be due to superfetch. It has been seen that they are a quite of an issue in computers with RAM of 4GB or less.

So these were some of the tasks superfetch results to and cause.

Is it safe to disable SuperFetch?

Absolutely! There is neither risk nor any of the side effects if you decide to turn it off. We would recommend that if your system is all well running, then you can leave it on. If you have issues with high HDD usage, high RAM usage, or degraded performance during RAM-heavy activities, then try turning it off and see if it helps. If it does, keep it off. Otherwise, turn it back on.

Should we disable it or not?

Now you know a brief idea about superfetch, so now comes a question that if you want to enable or disable it? Well, it completely depends on you! If you don’t experience any speed loss or lag after disabling superfetch then it is good, and we would say you keep it that way but if you face low speed and lag then we don’t recommend keeping it that way, and you should probably enable it again.

So disable it or enable it is completely your choice, and it is up to you if you want to keep it or not. If your experience is not altered then disabling it is not a bad idea.

Now that you have a basic idea about both what the superfetch feature is and we have also discussed that if you should disable it or not. Now comes the question about how, how to disable it?
